ANCIENT   ASSYRIA

NEO-ASSYRIAN EMPIRE.

The later period of Assyrian power dates from approx 900BC until the fall of it's capital, Nineveh in 612BC. A powerful coalition of Babylonians, Scythians and Persians finally brought down the overstretched militaristic society that had dominated Mesopotamia for centuries. Disciplined, well organised and well armed, Assyrian heavy chariots, heavy infantry and effective cavalry , backed up by auxiliaries were a hard enemy to beat on the battlefield.
